My favorite childrens' book
By Deborah J. Flynn
This is by far the most memorable childrens' book from my youth. It takes you back to a simpler time when children were able to discover in a safe environment. On "What a Jolly Street" you visit a neighborhood full of adventures. The difficulty for me as a young girl was only reading the story of the day and not reading ahead. So much innocent fun!A great book for grandchildren.

Another nostalgic reader weighs in
By Mark Wilsonwood
I, too, loved the book when I was a child. I tried, and failed, to find a copy to read to my daughters when they were little (they're now 19 and 22). My wife bought a copy for me this past Christmas, and I am thoroughly enjoying reading one story per night, at bedtime. Amazing how much of it is familiar, 45 years later.

I wish all of us who fondly remember this book from childhood could get together for some sort of reunion. (Preferably at Mrs. Apricot's house - it's been a lot of years, but I have a feeling she still lives in the house at the end of What-a-Jolly Street, and no doubt will have freshly baked cookies when we get there).

An Old Fashioned Childhood
By Faye Constantino
This is the story of a neighborhood, unfolding day by day for an entire year! It is like "Mayberry" in the early sixties. All of the children of What-a-Jolly Street frequent the home of an elderly woman and she is the story teller, the all seeing one, who knows even when they have mistreated their toys.
As the year progresses it is not just the children we learn from and about, but also the pets and toys, even the changing seasons teach a lesson.
This book established, in me, the good moral values so many children seem to lack today. It is part of what makes me who I am, at 43 years of age. I would like to share this book with my children and future grandchildren. Search "What a Jolly Street" for great deals, I'm finally getting my hands on one after all these years!
