About the Author
Doctor Alan W. Arata holds a B.S. in Engineering, an M.S. in Exercise Science and a Ph.D. in Biomechanics. The son of a swimmer and swim coach, Dr. Arata started his swimming career at the "very old" age of 15, but at age 17 won a High School State Championship. After a Division I collegiate swimming career, he competed in and later coached Modern Pentathlon (swimming, running, fencing, shooting and equestrian). Dr. Arata has coached at the NCAA Division I level in two different sports, netting four NCAA trophies. He is the author of, The Parents' Guide to Swimming and several research articles. He is married to the former Kimberly Dunlop, a nine-time Modern Pentathlon National Champion. They have two children who are both age-group swimmers. Dr. Arata is a retired Professor of Biology and Physical Education and coaches USA and high school swimming.

Fantastic book

I was searching for a good reference to build a stretchcord training program. This book has exactly what I needed: different exercises for different strokes and distances. Each movement is clearly explained. Some of the programs within the book are a bit more complicated than what I need (I work with masters) yet the foundations are presently so clearly that I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking to a) learn more about stretchcord training with respect to swimming (coach, swimmer, or parent) or b) needs a foundation on which to build a training plan for the season.

Clear and Concise

I can hardly believe I am the first person to review this great book.

I attended Dr. Jonsen's presentation at the Founders of Bioethics Conference at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania. As a complete novice to ethics, I was very impressed by the way he presented the facts of a case, engaged the ethical dilemma, and detailed the relevant ethical principles that led to a resolution. This book is no different.

The book is arranged into a series of questions under four topics: Medical Indications (the appropriate treatment given the patient's medical problem), Patient Preferences (patient autonomy, decisional capacity, prior declaration of preferences, surrogate decision-making), Quality of Life (especially the disconnect between a patient's self-reported quality of life and that judged by an outside agent such as the doctor or family member), and Contextual Features (the impact of family members, insurance companies, social health policy, religion, etc). The end of each chapter also includes a few notes about pediatric cases with references to other works for more in-depth coverage.

In the process of answering the five to ten broad questions under each of the Four Topics, the authors present a plethora of cases (both real and constructed) designed to reinforce the understanding of the ethical principles involved, showcase how a small change in details can change the resolution of an ethical dilemma, and challenge the reader to resolve the issues. The cases are set apart from the text by the use of a blue font, making them easy to find. Each case is followed by a Commentary wherein the authors elucidate the issues at hand and a Resolution detailing their conclusion for the case.

The book is replete with citations to other reference works, including text books, legal cases, web sites, and journal articles in the ethics or medical community. Fortunately, they are grouped at the end of each short section so as not to interrupt the text while reading (making the book friendlier for on-the-spot use) and to present the relevant citations immediately adjacent to the subject of concern. The book is also exhaustively indexed so you can quickly find the information you need by page number as well as section number.

As noted in the subtitle, this book is intended for physicians practicing clinical medicine. However, I, as a pharmacy student, have still found the book to be well worth my time and money for explaining and exploring the issues that arise in the practice of medicine.

Jonson and Winslade have provided us with the one indispensible guide to hospital biomedical ethics. I have served on three ethics committees since 1982, and have taught hospital biomedical ethics to physicians, nurses and clergy, This text is universally appreciated for its clarity, lucidity and authority. To attempt the discipline without this text is to be less than completely competent.

Book for new generation aircraft creators

Very useful scientific book. It cover many new aspects of aircraft composite structures including the smart materials applied in helicopter rotor blades etc. This book successful complement the new monograph of D.Hodges "Nonlinear Composite Beam Theory". Analysis and Performance of Fiber Composites As researcher in aircraft mechanics I'm overjoyed for my last purchase from Amazon.

Great book by a great man

This beam is by far one of the best books in thin-walled theory.
Due to its latest, this book is probably the best for now.
Librescu is a professor at my school.
After he has gone, I had no one helping solve a NASA research problem.
However, this book is still a big favor that helped me go through the problem finally.

The following are Librescu's untold personalities worth to know.

He, the only few persons, in this world, who do not even have to write a single line of proposal to request funding from NASA.
He, whom I had never seen using a computer.

Given that this is the 10th book in the series it seems strange that this should be my first review of a Kurtherian Gambit book. Book 8 is supposed to be the gateway book between the first arc and the next story arc. I wasn't convinced and arguably book 9 ot book 10 could also be gateway books.
This story maintains the rapid pace and excitement of the previous books. A lot of the book is spent discussing how to build a space ship and mine asteroids. This is fine but if you want action sequences or BA's dialogue it can be a bit disappointing. In fact Bethany Anne seems to appear less and less in the books as the series goes on. That's a shame. I know that Michael Anderle is herding an increasingly large cast of characters (cats) but Bethany Anne has always been the star.
One of the features of the KG books has been the author's notes at the end. These have been good and bad. Thankfully this set of notes is short and to the point. If I want to read Amazon reviews I will; ON Amazon!
I have noticed a trend towards increasingly right wing/nationalist positions in the books as the series has progressed. This continues in Book 10. I hope it doesn't go too far. Michael Anderle might want to think about Robert Heinlein for a while, especially some of the non-fiction. Right now the stories are fine but he's dancing on the edge of a cliff. If there's anything oedipal we'll know he's fallen off the cliff and its time to stop reading.
The many good points remain, the energy, language, action sequences and humour. I'm looking forward to seeing how the next arc really gets going.

Cold as in the Etheric. Golly, Bethany Anne is getting a handle on her temper somewhat.
Especially since everyone is salivating for the keys to space. One tangled weave has the unfortunate outcome of separating BA from Michael in a nuclear roasting as the
plane was headed to their CO base crashed in a nearby canyon. His body never found.
If he 'misted' his presence never presented anywhere. Now you can see that Bethany
has matured more & doesn't do wholesale bloodletting as much to those guilty parties
involved . However that's what the Queens Own, the Rangers do. The scales balanced.
If not in the immediate timescale, perhaps in a future one the Michael we know has a
1,000 yrs of experience. The Alpha to the Queen. Does such power lie idle even to
Deaths call? I say his love to the QB requires him to fulfill his promise to her even across
the dimensions. What Say You?

Great Installment - - - Keep them coming!!!!

Ah! Book #10 - - it was really hard waiting for this installment. I admit to biting my nails and checking on Amazon multiple times until it was finally posted. I couldn't wait to get off work so I could rush home and READ.

The story was great and had new twists and new developments for the future! A good installment in the story line.

I recommend this series to everyone I know. Want great entertainment? Start reading Book #1 and keep going..

Now I just have to wait for the end of July

Jo Sprague is professor emeritus of Communication Studies at San Jose State University, where she also served as associate director of the Center for Faculty Development and Support. In addition, she is a former president of the Western States Communication Association. Her research focuses on critiquing, teaching, and the scholarship of speech communications.

Douglas Stuart is Vice President of Technical and Marketing Publications at FirstTel Systems Corporation.

David Bodary is a professor of Communication at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio, where he teaches public speaking and coordinates the Service Learning office. He belongs to both the National Communication Association (NCA) and the Central States Communication Association. Dr. Bodary has served in a variety of roles for both organizations and is pleased to have participated in the NCA Learning Outcomes in Communication project. Another Gripping Read From Jack!

Dean Arnold Corll was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on December 24, 1939. He met his end on August 8, 1973 (aged 33) in Pasadena, Texas with gunshot wounds to the chest and back. His killing spree lasted from 1970 - 1973. He’s reported to have killed at least 28 victims, mostly young boys.

The author does an excellent job in documenting this particularly disturbing case. It’s well written and researched and it shows in the details provided. Of course it contains a copious list of frightening and decidedly disturbing details about the personal background and the bevy of crimes of the killer, but the macabre material is handled quite tastefully in most cases, and even the faint of heart will still probably be enthralled while reading the book.

It's yet another one of those biopic reads that’s really hard to put down. In fact, while reading yet another of Jack Rosewoods books, I just had to keep turning the pages. Not necessarily because it's all that enjoyable in any way, shape or form, to delve a little too deeply into the malefic minds of such murderous men, but because I sincerely believe that most people are fascinated in one way or another by serial killers. Perhaps it’s the human morbid fascination with death. I’m not exactly sure. However, maybe it just astounds the average human mind as to how depraved another mind can be.

I would highly recommend this read to all fans of the crime genre. I received a copy from the author for my unbiased review.

This book will leave you shaking your head and asking how this could happen

I received this book free from the Members Giveaway on LibraryThing. However, I had also received the manuscript from the author before publication. That being said, I found this book to be well researched and a more than interesting read. It left me shaking my head for a couple of reasons. One, how could someone do what Dean Corll did to these boys, and two, how could the police react the way they did to all these disappearances. Mr. Rosewood really knows how to take you into the mind of the serial killer he is writing about, yet also make the victims real. I am looking forward to his next book.

Gripping Story of Terror

I received a copy of this book from Librarything for an honest review

I rember seeing news reports about this heinous crime but never realized to what extent the victims suffered. The book is very graphic in details of the torture of what the young men were put through. It is hard to believe that anyone would be capable of such violent acts. As Dean was growing up, he didn't have a stable family life and seemed to be on his own a lot. The more he was own his on, the more he was able to become a very vicious, but persuasive young man. He was known around the neighborhood as the "Candy Man." He passed out candy to young boys and lured them to his house. This started taking place in the 1970's , when some referred to that generation as the hippie generation. It didn't seem to strike the police department as strange that teenage boys were suddenly disappearing.

It always unnerves me to think that anyone would be capable of controlling someone else. Dean was a master at it. He was able to manipulate two young men to help him lure young boys to their eventual torture and death. Dean was good at controlling his little accomplishes with promises of cars and money. As the killings continued, the author talks about how the bizarre behavior and torture soon took on a thrill for the accomplishes .

Where were the police during this unexplainable event of missing teens? Some figured they had run away and didn't seem overly concerned about their safety. That must have been devastating to the families when they realized not much was being done to find their sons. I don't think we will truely know the depth of torture these young boys endured, but the author does a tremendous job in capturing those moments with precise details .

It seemed to all come to an end when one of the accomplishes , Wayne Henley, shot and killed Corll. He told the authorities it had been in self-defense. During his reign of terror , Dean Corll tortured and killed at least 28 young men. It is possible that there were other victims. As the news spread, Houston was gaining attention as having the most grisly mass muder Texas history and the worst in U. S. history.

The book is well written and you can tell much research went into this book. It is a story that will not be forgotten. For the victim's families their nightmare will never end. As the police began to uncover bodies buried in the boat shed and other areas, it shows that there was no remorse or even feelings for these victims . I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys true crime. It is one of the best written, most precise account of a crime that is almost to hard to comprehend.
