This is a fundamental book for anyone interested in the topic of Insurance Fraud. It covers basic definitions, various areas of potential insurance fraud and presents an excellent review of how different countries deal with these issues. Most interestingly to me and my work, Dexter Morse tackles the issue of whether there is a 'typical' profile for such fraudsters - it is very useful to be reminded that fraud is committed by real people and is not limited to a questions of legal definition. The book is very well-written and easy to read - that's not always the case with books dealing with the law - and the format is pleasing and easy on the eye.

Although I can understand Atchity's intention to cover to as many authors as possible for an anthology on classical Greek authors, I can't understand his decision to include little to nothing by Plato and Aristotle. Small excerpts from Plato's "Republic" and Aristotle's "Poetics" -- that's it??? Given their breadth of work and strength of influence, any volume that proclaims itself "THE Classical Greek Reader" should have included much more from Plato and Aristotle. Atchity should have omitted some of the (many) more obscure authors.

Musty Translations

Why did Oxford, in 1996, reprint prose translations from Kathleen Freeman's 1926 "Life and Work of Solon," with their cries of "Yea!" and "Ye glorious children of Memory"? Couldn't it get the rights to West's 1993 "Greek Lyric Poetry" at least (also published by Oxford)? More disconcertingly, we get an English Empedocles here of the vintages 1880 and 1898. Most of the major poets fare better, but Sophocles' "Antigone" is in H.R. Fairclough and A.T. Murray's 1902 Wardour Street ("didst thou") version.

With no reservations, I can declare this a very poorly conceived anthology. Anyone would do better to buy up a bunch of good translations in used paperbacks.

If you absolutely had to have an anthology, I'm not sure what is best, but "The Norton Book of Classical Literature," ed. B.M.W. Knox, is certainly far better.

Interpretive Planning is a Profession

This is an excellent book for those who can't attend a course on interpretive planning, and probably equally useful for people writing strategy documents, business plans and other planning documents as well. The author has uncluttered what can at times be a confusing process, and simplified it so that the user can actually produce a viable plan for an interpretive center or similar facility without getting side-tracked. Interpretive Planning is well worth reading and having on hand as a reference book. I do recommend it.

In this ambition he takes on the herritage of older storytelling (and also educating) authors. The plot is simple; we follow the nobelwinners of one year from the time they are chosen too the time they leave Stockholm with their checks. In the time inbetwen we get an indepth analysis of the minds and psychological functions of people who are alcoholics, suffer from low self esteem and so om. Also in his pick of personalities IW demonstrates that the goal is to educate the readers, this time moraly. the book is well woth reading both for its facts on the nobel prize, the gossip around the nobel prize and its analysis of different aspects of the meaning of life and how to do it.

It was a fascinating and thrilling experience to read this book. Wallace certainly had great insights and a wealth of knowledge. My impression after reading this book is that Nobel prize winners are not saints not super human beings but just like you and me with hopes fears and human problems but somehow, by luck, their achievements had turned out to be unique and acclaimed.

This may be the very best of Irving Wallace's wonderful novels! The story is just a timely one, whether you read it when it first came out or just now. He develops the characters so beautifully, I could picture every single one of them. And as the story develops, there is surprise after surprise. Just a fabulous book and one I wholeheartedly recommend.

Really, the best way to read The Hobbit

Okay, so I say that this is the best way to read The Hobbit. And I am dead serious.
I know that annotated books can be difficult to navigate, filled with useless, pointless, or just plain boring information, and can be grossly oversized. That is not the case here.
So - here's the scoop.
The original story is very nicely presented, with all original illustrations in color when possible, and in black and white elsewhere. The type is nice and clear, very easy to read. (Many cheaper editions are also rather hard on the eyes. Check the print before you buy, folks!)
The illustrations are printed very clearly, and with very good notes on what they are.
And then the annotations - useful, engaging, and very well done. You will WANT to read these. We discover how the book was written, and what was changed between editions. (There were many changes made so that The Hobbit would conform more easily to the Lord of the Rings trilogy.) There are fascinating tidbits about Tolkien's life and the experiences that made their way into the story.
The forward tells about the writing of the novel, and the appedices give additional details about the text.
There are also many illustrations from other editions of the book. These are varied, from thought-provoking to not-provoking.
And the book is not too big. Some editions are simply too big to be read, but this book is reasonably sized so that you can actually READ IT! In fact, I have not read any other edition of The Hobbit for years, since the original annotated version came out.
The new edition is very much worthwhile. Enjoy!

Finally a "real" unabridged recording of LOTR

I am not one who usually buys books-on-tape (or CD as in this case) but I have long wanted to obtain the Lord of the Rings so as to hear this incredible story over and over. After having read it several times, my book is in tatters and so I searched for an unabridged audio recording. Many of those that I have seen claim to be "unabridged" but the fact is that they are not complete! They give parts of the books in full but leave out many sections or chapters. This set by Rob Inglis is COMPLETE!!! It is very well read with no drastic voicing of characters. Characters are easily distinguished and thoroughly enjoyable. This set is not full of sound effects and music, so if you are looking for that this is not for you. However, I personally prefer the fact that this is not an over-production and is rather quite focussed on what I wanted in the first place, the characters and the story. Inglis does a marvelous job and I am very happy with this set. Again, not to harp on it but, this is a "complete" package well worth the money!!!

A worthy addition to anyone's collection

Since at this point these books no longer need an introduction, I might as well go straight into the review of this edition, the Deluxe Pocked Boxed Set. It features leatherette covers, which are soft and very well made. The colors are less saturated than they are in Amazon's picture, but that is for the better. They are definitely nice and easy to hold, and the "stand" it comes with is sturdy and beautiful. I decided to put them in my desk, and they could not have gotten a better place. The only complaint that might arise is that the font is small, but that is to be expected from a "pocket" edition, and it is readable anyway. Overall, the quality of this edition is magnificent. If you are a fan, this relatively inexpensive set should definitely be added to your collection. If you haven't read the books, stop reading this and go buy them. Seriously. Now.
